POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • What is Trex?

Trex is the leader of synthetic Capped Composite ultra-low maintenance decking and railing. Having a Trex deck today means that you will spend more time out enjoying your deck and far less time having to maintain your deck. Trex decking and railing is easy to clean, will not rot or decay, will not stain or fade and unlike PVC decking is not affected by sunscreen products or bug spray. Gone are the early days of traditional composite decking dealing with issues of staining, fading, mold and mildew.

Trex is also the largest global manufacturer of eco-friendly Capped Composite decking and is 95% recycled content. Trex is more than just decking and railing, they also have the widest selection of Furniture, Under Deck Drainage (Trex Rain Escapes), Lighting, Steel Deck Framing (Trex Elevations), Pergolas, Outdoor Kitchens, Fencing, Spiral Stairs and Storage. Trex has everything you could possibly desire for your next deck project and we love that.

  • Trex VS Wood?

Everyone loves the natural look of wood but hates all the painting, staining and sealing. Wood decks of all types, including pressure-treated, ipe, cedar or redwood, require extensive upkeep. Trex was designed with the beauty of wood decking, but not all the maintenance. Trex is high-performance, eco-friendly capped composite decking boards engineered to withstand years of sun, sleet and snow, keeping their rich color. Through it all, Trex has never felled a single tree. When comparing composite decking to wood, there’s no competition. Wood is susceptible to rot, insects, twisting, fading, cracking, splinters, requires annual staining, and contributes to deforestation. Trex simply does not have any of those issues.

  • Trex VS early-generation composite?

Composite decking has come a long way over the past two decades. Trex should know, they invented composite decking and Your Deck Co. knows because we have been working with Trex in Canada since the very beginning. At Your Deck Co. we have seen the complete evolution of Trex from the early beginning through to today. Remember your cell phone in the 90’s? All it was used for was making a call? Today our phones have advanced into complete computer systems. Much like cell phones of the past, Trex no longer creates traditional composite decking and focuses on the advancement and betterment of their product. Today Trex has engineered the most significant breakthrough in composite technology, the Trex high-performance, weather-resistant shell known as Trex Capped Composite. Early generations of traditional composite decking were subject to staining, fading, mold and mildew. Today, Trex high-performance boards are guaranteed to provide you with 25 long glorious years without the need to worry about staining and fading.

  • Trex vs PVC?

PVC decking is another low-maintenance decking alternative to wood. Just like Trex Capped composite, PVC can resist rot, termites and mold. However, PVC decking is far less environmentally friendly, produced mostly from virgin plastic. Compare that to the ultra-green Trex board: made with 95% recycled materials and eco-friendly manufacturing processes, Trex never loses its sophisticated color or performance. PVC is prone to chalking, can fade and stain from rubber mats, sunscreen and insect repellent. PVC is also recommended to be maintained with after-market cleaning products to maintain the aesthetics over time. Over the years Your Deck Company has worked with almost every brand of synthetic decking on the market and every type of wood. We have worked with different capped composite decking products such as Trex, TimberTech and Fiberon – as well as numerous PVC brands such as Azek, Gossen and Wolf. The simple fact is we have had zero warranty claims with any Capped Composite decking that we have installed yet we have had material warranty claims with PVC products and traditional composites.

  • Does Your Deck Co. only work with Trex?

No. We have access to every brand of decking on the market today and we offer a wide selection of material choices for our clients. About the only product we do not offer is Pressure Treated wood for finished decking and railing. We realize that Trex is not going to be every client’s favorite choice, whether they don’t like the colour or the texture, Trex is simply not going to be the best fit for every client or application. For those reasons, we do carry a selection of other brand names such as TimberTech, Fiberon, Deckorators, Azek etc. We have several reasons for why Trex is our number one choice such as: Trex has unmatched product selection, high durability, consistent high quality, excellent customer service for us and our clients, reliable distribution and product availability. Although we do offer PVC brands such as Azek, Wolf and Gossen, at this time we do not highly recommend PVC decking.
